Léonard Tsuguharu FOUJITA’s Portrait de Mademoiselle Frank is an important portrait that demonstrates the maturity of the artist’s practice through its refined linework and gentle color palette. His signature milky white skin tones quietly convey the sensibility and experience of an artist who moved between Paris and Japan. Female Nude by Egon SCHIELE, a leading figure of Austrian modern art, strips away ornamentation to confront the essence of the human body. Through distorted forms and fluid linear composition, the work embodies the defining characteristics of early 20th-century Expressionism. Edvard MUNCH’s Madonna (Schiefler 33; Woll 39) encapsulates opposing emotions—life and death, sensuality and anxiety—powerfully with the viewer’s inner psyche.
