SBI Art Auction is pleased to announce that “The 82nd SBI Art Auction | Modern and Contemporary Art” will be held on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Hillside Forum (Shibuya, Tokyo).

Among the highlights of the sale is Swimmer At Dusk by Katherine BRADFORD (Estimate: JPY 2,000,000-3,000,000). In recent years, BRADFORD has gained increasing international reputation, with representation by leading galleries including CANADA in New York and Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo. The work exemplifies her long-standing exploration of swimmers and pools, combining her distinctive sense of transparency and buoyancy with a uniquely abstract visual language. Also, featured is Black on Yellow by SHINOHARA Ushio, another artist based in New York. The work is distinguished by the vivid contrast of yellow and black, reflecting the dynamic energy that has characterized SHINOHARA’s pioneering contribution to Japanese avant-garde art. The sale will also present a diverse selection of works by Japanese artists, including AKE-TAMA by FUKAHORI Riusuke, renowned for his distinctive technique that creates the illusion of three-dimensional goldfish; Burning Godzilla Mask by MURAKAMI Yuji (Estimate: JPY 1,500,000-2,500,000), whose Nihonga paintings consistently depict Godzilla and other kaiju as symbols of contemporary Japan; and Untitled by NAGAI Hiroshi, whose works—evoking the urban culture and resort imagery of the 1980s—have seen growing recognition in recent years and continue to attract strong demand at our auctions. Spanning postwar art, contemporary art, and popular culture, the sale offers a cross-sectional view of the diverse currents shaping today’s art market.

Another notable aspect of the auction is a group of works connected to Louis Vuitton. Highlights include Untitled by ROKKAKU Ayako painted directly onto a Louis Vuitton backpack (Estimate: JPY 3,000,000-5,000,000), Malle Courrier Lozine 110 featuring KUSAMA Yayoi’s iconic pumpkin motif on a large trunk, and LV Flower Garden by MURAKAMI Takashi. These works illustrate the dynamic intersection of contemporary art and luxury brands, a category that continues to attract global attention.

This sale offers an opportunity to explore a broad spectrum of artistic expression, from modern and contemporary art to works that engage with popular culture. Prior to the auction, most of lots will be available for viewing during the auction preview. Admission is free and open to all visitors, regardless of whether they intend to participate in the auction. Taking place at Hillside Forum in Daikanyama, the preview and auction welcome a wide audience, from established collectors to those taking their first steps into the world of art.
