An Early-Autumn Showcase of Expression: Featuring More Than 500 Works
SBI Art Auction Co., Ltd. is pleased to present “The 74th SBI Art Auction | LIVE STREAM AUCTION,” to be held on Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13, 2025. With more than 500 works gathered, this sale offers one of the most substantial lineups among our recent live-streamed auctions.
Anchored in modern and contemporary art from the 20th century onward, the sale is scheduled to feature around 540 works across painting, prints, sculpture, and ceramics. From Pop Art driven by color and repetition, to portraits and geometric compositions that capture the pulse of the city, to landscapes and still life attuned to light and season, and further to white porcelain and sculpture that foreground materiality—you can explore a cross-section from established names to artists in the spotlight, from Japan and abroad.
KUSAMA Yayoi’s Pumpkin (Yellow Y) (Kusama 148) (1992) charms with its buoyant rhythm—the yellow mesh across a black ground and the dotted pumpkin form showcase her signature play of pattern and repetition. Andy WARHOL’s Cow (F. & S. II.12A) (1976) places a pink cow against a purple ground; the screenprint’s characteristically flat color planes and tight cropping give the image crisp and unmistakable humor. In both works, color and pattern do the heavy lifting.
For the pleasure of color and light, see NAGAI Hiroshi’s Untitled (2016) and IMAI Ulala’s FRUITS (2020). NAGAI’s crisp outlines set a clear blue sky and water against white poolside parasols and palms, distilling a refreshing atmosphere. IMAI arranges fruit neatly on a blue table; her supple touch and translucent planes guide the eye smoothly across the canvas. Both works convey the brightness of the season at a glance.
Material and form come to the fore in KURODA Taizo’s UNTITLED WHITE PORCELAIN (HANAIRE) (2012) and KATO Izumi’s Untitled (2019). The porcelain by KURODA slightly tapered body and small mouth are impeccably composed, while the smooth white-porcelain surface returns light gently. KATO retains the natural shape of stone and stitch marks in washi, over which a sparely drawn face asserts a quiet presence—an invitation to feel how materials shape form.
